Hollie Wilson - Aspiring Artist
Overview:
The contents of this portfolio consist of my work completed whilst studying at Barnsley College. The work ranges from mind maps, mood boards, contextual research, working under artist influences, documentation and sheet work. Throughout the portfolio you will also see charcoal drawings, mono prints, digital photographic collage and abstract expressionism paintings. The first three pages show my final outcome series for a project titled “Allegories of the Senses”, in which my response to the brief was exploring touch and sound, relating the piece to the current pandemic but also developing my abstract expressionist style into sound paintings, to convey a universal language: imagination. I think my portfolio shows a wide range of experimentation from self-portrait drawing, to abstract expressionism paintings, to digital manipulation.
I collect thorough research into the briefs I am given, to further my understanding and help bring clarity to my ideas and the message I feel I need to express as my own reaction to the brief.
I hope you have gained an insight into the first couple of chapters of my artist story…

Final Piece Series: Touch, no Touch, Sound, no Sound. This piece is called Oblivious, it comes first in the order of this series. It reflects the first stage of the pandemic, our unawareness and then the realization that changed how we lived our lives.
Media: acrylic paint, canvas, ink for letters.
October-November 2020
Final Piece Series: Touch, no Touch, Sound, no Sound. This piece is called Change of Circumstance, shows the adaptations required, how unfamiliar it felt, but the crucial importance these adaptations hold in saving lives.
Media: acrylic paint, canvas, screen print
October-November 2020
Final Piece Series: Touch, no Touch, Sound, no Sound. This piece is the last in the series and is named “unprecedented”, it shows our inability to know what the future holds. The shattered mirror will reflect whoever is looking at the piece, making the piece adapt to whatever the future is at that time. The mirror is shattered showing how humans can only see one part of the picture, the shattering shows there are many different angles to one story, one perspective is only one angle.
Media: acrylic paint, canvas, mosaic mirrors, PVA glue.
October-November 2020
Digital Photographic Collage:  experimenting with digital manipulation in conveying a story, a message. The photoshoot was inspired by the pandemic, exploring the lack of touch, the need for touch and the power of touch.
October-November 2020 Media Used: PowerPoint Picture tools , iPhone Camera
Abstract pieces, some part of Final Piece Series: Fathom. Using acrylic black paint and PVA glue. In the middle using acrylic black paint and egg shell mark making. 13/05/20, 15/05/20
